The entire pandemic situation has been quite stressful for a lot of people. This definitely took a toll on people’s mental health, as people were forced to stay indoors and change their routines entirely. Not only was being in lockdown complicated for many people, but those that lost their jobs and were in a financial crisis were struggling to stay afloat and this damaged their mental health more than they imagined.
Not everyone was able to stay in lockdown with their family members, some people had to be more cautious with others given that they had to protect family members that had some sort of health issue, as they became the population in risk during the entire COVID situation. This meant for some people staying home and being away from family members. The entire situation was isolating for most people and no one knew exactly how to prepare for this phase in their lives.
The COVID-19 situation definitely had a major effect on people, and many had to face challenges that were not only overwhelming, but they were incredibly stressful. This meant dealing with the anxiety of being in isolation, an increase in stress, and in addition the social distancing was the major detonator for mental health issues.
Learning To Cope With Stress
By far one of the biggest emotional health issues was dealing with the stress that COVID caused on people. From losing their jobs, staying away from their family members, or simply the entire situation that was going on in the world. People definitely experienced fear as they noticed an extreme change in their life routines. Therefore, somewhere forced to learn how to deal with the stress of this new situation that they were living in.
Some people focused on exercise in order to release stress and tension during the day, they involved themselves into creative and entertaining activities that didn’t involve watching TV all day. In addition, eating healthy and taking care of your body became the primary focus of those that were suffering from mental health issues, it was the best way to distract themselves.
During the same time, people suffering from mental health issues realized that they weren’t alone, and that other people around the world were going through the exact same things. For that reason, helping others became a great tool to take care of yourself in order to be able to help others. During times of social distancing it was important to stay connected despite not being able to truly be with them. A great way to help out people dealing with a mental health crisis was through calls, video chats, or seeing others from a distance.
